1) The process of content selection shifts from the user to the service provider, liability for copyright infringement also shifts because now they have influence over and responsibility for the content selection process.

2) The user of a content aggregation service is paying (directly via money transfer or indirectly by seeing ads) for the content selection, not only for the provision of an automated service to retrieve feeds. One could argue that the revenue the service provider creates with content selection is based on the publisher's content, the publisher therefore should get a share of it.

In that case the boundaries of freedom are not defined by the constitution any more, but by private parties. Therefore any constitutional stipulation of 'freedom of speech' is practically worthless. Freedom can not only be measured by the existence of a constitutional construct.

When it's between two private parties, you're damn right that the boundaries of freedom are defined by those two parties. Freedom of Speech only applies to the government and to government use of force.

I'm sure the guys who penned the constitution would agree that it wasn't about giving you the freedom to act like a jackass without repercussions.

Yes lets ruin people's life for a tweet written in 20 seconds of mental derangement. Insane.

That's not what happened. If you read the original blog post, you'll see a sustained, violent screed directed at him and his daughter. It wasn't one tweet, it was a series of tweets over a period of many days. Did this ruin anyone's life? Doubtful. Losing your job is not the end of the world. And you know what? These are young kids. My hope is that this is a serious wake-up call for them to take adult responsibility for themselves.

> I’ll be very disappointed if this is just a device that shows a fake analog watch face, displays notifications from a tethered iPhone, and tracks your footsteps and heart rate.

John Gruber (http://daringfireball.net/2014/09/prelude)

Sadly it seems to be just that.

It's a classic negative externality. The costs for society are higher than the private costs. Therefore a market failure.

It's available now. Am I missing something or is there no login button? I only get an option to register.

Edit: Installed it on another device and the app only says "Hello world!". Seems like the Play Store distributes different versions for smartphones and tablets.

Edit 2: The login button is cut off on my phone because they failed to put the login/register screen into a ScrollView.

Edit 3: Also the positioning of the loading indicator is weird: http://imgur.com/jp6wtIA

We're on top of both issues, stay tuned to the store for an update!

Will there be calendar functionality beyond google calendar? I would love to be able to use my caldav/fruux calendars with IFTTT. I saw a tweet from the folks over at fruux who mentioned willingness to help out wit that.

The last time I checked Warrior Forum was basically a marketplace for scammsters scamming newbies and selling scam paraphernalia. Long term value? Make 50.000 bucks in 10 days and get the Ultimate Master Traffic Money Maker for free!

I'm always amused by these Internet Marketers selling Internet Marketing Strategies to Internet Marketers. The whole site is basically an enclosed ecosystem of people selling and buying each others stuff.

That's not the case, but it could use a reputation system.

I believe western politicians don't really care about facism at this point as long it is pro-western instead of pro-russian facism. And from a geopolitical point of view that might be the right thing to do in the current situation.

And how exactly do you determine "the truth"? The western view is probably viewed as propaganda in Russia. There is no such thing as an objective point of view.

Lets look at the facts,

Russian speaking troops without any country marking (shoot at one and the world would quickly find out who they belong to) but are speaking Russian and driving trucks with Russian numbers plates are occupying Crimea and blockaded Ukranian military bases.

And are now pushing for an Anschluss style referendum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stimmzettel-Anschluss.jpg

I highly doubt the Ukranians would have blockaded their own bases "for the laugh" or want a part of their country annexed by Russia.

Whichever way the state controlled Russian media tries to spin in, "the boots on the ground" paint a different picture as to what the Russians are being told.

Are you trying to argue with me? Because I haven't made any argument for or against Russia or the West in my post. I just pointed out that facts can be interpreted in different ways. That shouldn't prevent anyone from taking a stand, but it's important to know how "the truth" works.

of course, the new revolutionary government repealing protection laws for Russians in their borders has nothing to do with the fact Crimea was part of Russia (before Gorbachev gave it to Ukraine to gain favour) and Crimea being almost entirely occupied with the remaining Russian families has absolutely nothing to do with the protection of Russians.

it _must_ be to do with Russia being a bully- sarcasm

$Sudetenland = preg_replace('/Russian/','/German/',$argument);

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudetenland

Wait so are you saying the Anschluss was involuntary and Austrians didn't openly welcome Hitler?

The similarities, the rhetoric and the actions from Putin are frighteningly similar as to what happened at the start of WW2 :(

I see, so I take it you left home through your third story window rather than the front door, and then flew to work on a pigeon since nothing can be known as objective truth.

Google wouldn't need to acquire the project if they wanted a desktop app. It's just a client ... nothing Google engineers couldn't handle.

Right - an embedded webview with some window dressing. But it seems like they don't want to handle it, as they've made clear. So why not shell out a few bucks for one that's already made?

because the first thing they'd do with it is throw away and rewrite it on the Google tech stack.

But this person might land a job at Google, like the Sparrow folks... http://sparrowmailapp.com/

This is seriously just a stylesheet: https://raw.github.com/kbhomes/google-music-mac/master/googl...

That's not an insult, it's supremely awesome that this is even possible and that this dev made it happen. I'm using it now. But there are a few of these types of things for Google Music, there's a similar Chromebook app.

Because they would need to support it. Plus all the other reasons why they don't have a native desktop client now. Like the strategic goal to establish Chrome as an app platform.
