Not exactly right I think. Many of them are attempting to create a money tree and HN is seen as a place for marketing. These accounts have very little understanding of the HN community and what it takes to do well here. They have heir claw spam reading the common advice for doing well on HN without understanding the nuances of those points.
I do agree with the author, for a subset of showhn, that the quote is likely accurate.
For sure, good Show HNs suffer because of the spam. Hoping it dies down with time, much like the crypto hype cycle (which it turns out are one of the primary sources of spam this cycle too)
