Here's a link to the about page for a history/explanation for the site:

https://www.historyofinformation.com/story.php?t=About

I originally thought this was only going to be a history of the use/development of information and media, but it seems the timeline on the page is basically a history of humans in general. I guess it is a great history of information and media, just not what I was expecting. There are some cool articles linked in some of entries.

The author also has a website for medicine and biology history and has written books on internet/cyberspace history.

I've recently read The Gutenberg Galaxy by McLuhan and I can recommend it for everyone interested in the topic. He analyses how the invention of printing press influenced society, culture, and human consciousness. I liked his idea that the shift from oral to written communication has fundamentally changed the human consciousness.

James Gleick's "The information" is also a great read on the history of information and society.

Thanks! Going to check it now.
