Slightly unrelated question:

Why does Lucene and derivatives (ES,Solr,etc..) not have the concept of a join? Always found it to be a major downside of them.



Because they're not relational databases, I guess.

I mean, it's like asking why PostgreSQL does not provide a gopher server, it's just not their scope.


Splunk can do a join and pipe just fine. It's a direct ES competitor and is not an RDBMS.
