The cores run at significantly higher clock, up to 2.6GHz vs up to 1.4GHz. Once you factor in the dramatic IPC improvents of zen, it should be perfectly sufficient replacement.


More cores are better for security and virtualization, per Spectre/Meltdown. Why go backwards from 4 to 2 cores, when there are Intel mini PCs with 6 cores and Ryzen Embedded V3000 with 8 cores?

There were also security improvements between Ryzen Embedded V1000 and V3000.

Do embedded customers want a "perfectly sufficient" equivalent of their 8-year old device, or a flexible device with headroom for the next 8 years of sales & support?
