In the context of politicians in the USA they will not perceive its a problem until it stop working.

Given how strong gerrymandering is there's no benefit to reaching out to the other side, just hold the line while scoring political points.



There are many other problems as well, but I think the topic of conversation in this thread is the oratory skills of policy makers, which might explain a few downvotes.
