I've wanted to do that with an old laptop and send it to be hosted at a friend's house.

The advantage I found with a laptop :

1. Only two cables, power and ethernet. Installation and removal is quick.

2. Comes bundled with keyboard and screen so no need for monitor

3. Usually very low power consumption and low heat.

4. Light, it can be stored anywhere.

So to answer your question, I'm guessing all of the above?

It's not, I'm 36/44.

Only if you're a nation with few resources or in emergency situation.

Creativity in the US military as always been associated with a lot of $ for contract with the private sectors.

Yes, many countries are now using cheap drones to destroy targets but I'm not sure the US military has the mentality to adapt to this situation because they're not "really" at war.

How would highly ranked personnel react to the idea of a 400$ drone, cheaper than an AR15, when they usually discuss budgets about aircraft carriers (or a few 100$million F35) ?

I wonder how many potential contractors would add a 0 to the price just to be taken seriously.

They'd just add a zero to the quantity to be delivered instead.

Drones are bullets, not delivery systems like aircraft carriers and machine guns.

The US military already deploys a copy of the Iranian Shahed drone. They aren't $400 but the Shahed isn't that cheap either.

Noob sidenote, TIL that you must "defang" ip addresses in security reports so you write it with brackets like 135.136.1[.]133.

This prevent it from being clickable.

Links are also often modified with "hxxps" instead of "https". Link is still clickable but will not work.

There was a day when many people used a Firefox addon that rewrote hxxps to https and would undefang the IP addresses. I can't remember what it's called but these days I use FoxReplace to do similar things. If I want to obfuscate things I typically base64 encode for the laptop and workstation users.

Yes, we all know the French are right on this one by calling it "essence"

Seems cromulent to me. One of the common meanings of essence is "a product of distillation" (compare e.g. essential oils - oils won through steam distillation). And gasoline is won through fancy distillation

As of today, I only use 2 solutions for Windows GUI :

- windows forms in .net

- flutter

All the rest always presents itself with a sheer aura of "It was a great idea but we couldn't finish it".

Without ever discussing with anyone from MS about it, I think they stopped improving/working on this because of electron.

Any web developer can build a good enough website and a good enough desktop app with electron.

Is it in solitaire or minesweeper?

Be careful what you wish for

I wish for the original solitaire to come back.

I use win95 emulator in the browser to play it.

Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Copilot for airline pilots!

Microsoft should add a new game to Windows to accustom Windows users to Copilot.

There's a restrictions on games with even simulated gambling

Just what we need...AI agents that will play our games for us!

Didn't they kill those?

Yes, but in 12 month, 1 man and 20 women can produce the 20 kids.

It's not the case with 1 woman and 20 men.

There is a birth crisis. Modern, liberal women are not actually reproducing, they are not keeping their end of the evolutionary bargain (men protecting, sacrificing and dying, while women giving birth). Therefore, there is no need to maintain the old-fashioned, patriarchal system with women as a more protected group. Everyone should contribute equally, pull their own weight. Equal rights, equal lefts (responsibilities).

Western women are already only producing ~1.5 kids (many with none!), you could send 50% of young women to die in war, then have the other half have a fertility rate of 6, like what their great great grandmothers had, and we would be far far ahead already.

50 men and 50 women. You have to send 50 people to the front. You'd send 49 men, leave one behind for reproduction purposes, have 50 women at home and be short of 1 person.

Or we could embrace equality and send 25 men and 25 women, leaving behind 25 of each to do whatever they want.

Can you share examples of this happening in modern history at scale?

That's a thought game, not reality.

In Québec they solved it by issuing the ticket to the car owner that is considered responsible and it's up to the owner to contest it.

Nobody's considered guilty, it's an administrative ticket.

No points are removed from the owner's driver licence because they can't prove who was driving but the owner still has to pay the ticket.
