To keep the dog & cat from drinking out of it. Very unpopular with the quadrupeds & half of the bipeds.

The growth that occurs on the underside of the lid makes for a good reminder that cleaning the toilet is (over-)due.

Also to keep the toddler from playing in it.

More plausibly, they are seeding the Demon Haunted World theory to distract the populous from their immediate problems. I found the timing of resurgent UFO/UAP stories & official statements at the height of the pandemic quite dubious.

I did/do really enjoy the thought experiments posited in these comments. For more than a few minutes my mind's eye forgot that my finances have been a slow-motion trainwreck these last 3 years.

I had myname.com for 15 years. I let it go when I had email hosting issues, the Covid hit & I scrutinized my cost:benefit of inflating registrar and hosting fees over the years.

Good to know that is a factor, thanks. You and the parent posters' disclosure is appreciated.

Maybe you don't want to have to work with people like that anyway.

I don't disagree, but it seems better to respond with appreciation for their candidness.

I also don't disagree with your point. But I am also intentionally informing them how their actions may be percieved by a bystander, or their own potential resource pool.

While they are pre-judging others for not using gmail because they see that as weird, I am a valuable capable potential producer judging them for their failings of both academic integrity (as in you just shouldn't do that simply because it's not right) AND also seperately for their failing of pure intelligence and their own self interest, because in fact some of the smartest most capable people are the ones willingly and knowingly taking on the burden of not using gmail for either practical or principled reasons, and they are filtering those people out, which I judge to be stupid. Those are probably exactly the most valuable people to their own interests.

While from the other side, I don't necessarily consider it to be stupidly filtering out potential employers, because I am not desperate for any scrap of employment.

I haven't noticed any special problem with my own PM address, but I have never tried to cold call anyone from it. So I would possibly agree that filtering out 90% is too much even if I'm not desperate, but I haven't encountered that problem because I'm not trying to contact a large number of new strangers.

Thanks. I tried FastMail a few years back. I had delayed mail problems. Reached out to them. Their email, informing everything looked good on their end, had a 4 hour delay in the header. Heh.

I thought of Leto Atreides II in the 4th Dune book.

edit: not the op.

We just passed 1 month since acquisition, and yet the multitude of articles(and 1000's of posts here on HN) calling out Twitter for not paying it's debts makes it seem like they are > 30/60/90 in arrears. I understand it's a shit show, but pouring gas on the fire is not helping; the exact opposite, as I presume it is intended.

Weaponized Media has gone mainstream.

Frankly Elon mostly caused this upon himself. The media love a hero, and he was the darling genius hero that'll save humanity for over a decade now. I hope you understand how this image the media helped build for him has direct effect on him being able to attract investors, their capital, forge deals with governments, get subsidies, attract quality employees, and ultimately make a ton of sales to end users.

Media gave Elon a lot, and all Elon had to do is keep his inner asshole... inner. We all knew the reports from whistleblowers about questionable behavior and safety in his factories. We know he's been fired twice from his first two ventures. We know a lot. And we ignored it. Because we wanted to believe in the genius hero visionary.

But it's hard to ignore when he's making an ass of himself 24/7 out in the open, on Twitter, and in front of the world.

He attracted all this attention, he wanted it. He entered with a "sink" remember? He wanted the media to cover this. And then he proceeded to act like a lunatic. Firing people, rehiring them, firing them again. Launching a feature that caused mass impersonations, removing it. Trying to launch it again. Delaying 3 times. Picking up an UNHINGED battle with Apple over a "secret tax" that was the highlight of a public keynote by Steve Jobs in 2008.

And see when the media has glorified someone SO MUCH, and he's completely betraying that image and embarrassing the media... the media feels responsible to reciprocate by basically "wait a second, we always said we love Elon, but we don't support this... or that... oh my god he did what? we totally don't support this". They have to do this. Because the default over the years is they support what Elon does by default. And he made it impossible for them to support him.

Following extra spicy foods with a pint or two of milk neutralizes the post pyrotechnics, for me. If lactose intolerant, sugar works, but not as well(Perhaps in large/unhealthy quantity?). YMMV.

Edit: I always presumed the high after spicy food was endorphins.

Basically, as I understand it, capsaicin can be psychoactive in the same sense that, for example, running or BDSM can be psychoactive: an endorphin rush which can cause a feeling of euphoria.

Or a cold shower.

Cold showers are known to be a gateway drug to crack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDx6ai-HA1M

The milk helps some, but in my experience on absolutely can blow past that point so that the next day you're getting the same tingles from the other end.

>Edit: I always presumed the high after spicy food was endorphins.

That was my assumption too.

Ask most persons who text + drive and they will self-report their advanced multi-tasking skills. Ask anyone who shares space around them on the road and that opinion will be, approaching 100%, contradictory. Situational awareness and anticipation are key components to safely operating a vehicle, with or without 'assistance technologies'.
