You have 1) stolen everybody's shit and put it behind a paywall, 2) cornered the hardware market in some RICO-worthy offensive that has priced one of the few affordable pasttimes for young people out of reach, 3) changed your climate story (lie) on a dime, and started putting the horrible power-guzzling data centers on any strip of land within spitting distance of a power plant. I hope you all go out of business, and I hope it happens French Revolution style.

Of course they were going to use it for military purposes you spiritual abortions, and there is nothing your keyboard-soft hands can do about it.

One day redhat is going to grease Trump's pole with enough cash, and King Donald is going to send a member of his tribal-tattooed, part-time MAGA influencer burgerwaffen to pull-up the black van and take you under cover of night for posting wrongthink about wayland & systemd.

From the emails I've read, Chomsky prematurely handed a big chunk of his net worth over to his children. With the new wife and the move, Noam was burning through cash at considerable speed. His kids started tightening the purse. Jeffrey Epstein came in as a financial fairy godmother to wrangle the purse strings back from Noam's kids. Given that Epstein and Maxwell were working hard for Israel, and Chomsky is a famous critic of Israeli policy, having Noam owe him one must have been a bit of a coup. Not that it would silence him, but it would at least get Chomsky to moderate his tone.

If you deal with the same people over time -- even highly intelligent ones -- you will notice the stark decline in intelligence in the later years. I didn't even like Chomsky when he had his marbles, but it's hard to get worked-up over "Old guy gets mixed-up with the wrong people and does dumb shit."

But even in 2016, even with his diminished faculties, Chomsky was not just a news-hound, but a news BEAST. This, "oh, we didn't know until 2019" is a massive load of shit.

The only HERO I've come across in these e-mails is Norman Finkelstein.

I’d like to know more about Normal Finkelstein and why you consider him a hero?

We need more goodness in the world hence why I’m asking

Norman is a hero because he is the only character in the emails so far who brutally rejected his invitation to the pedo party.

What a legend. I only knew the name, now I will read the books

Raid all of them. Raid Google. Raid Facebook. Raid Apple. Raid Microsoft. Big tech has gotten away with everything from fraud[0] to murder[1] for decades. Black outfits. Rappel lines. Automatics. Touch that server Prakesh, and you won't live to touch another.

But that book is a waste. It is just MIT dunning-krugerites who were salty that LISP machines never took off. When it comes to real life, the bell labs approach won, and for several good reasons. Not "worse is better" (another dunning-krugerite cope), but "less is more."

Turns out free beer is great, even when it is warm.

From your perspective, what would be an "OS done right"? I have a running list of things I would change in Unix, but replacing sysvinit with systemd's one-ring-to-rule-them-all would not be on it.

The only good beer is warm beer. If the beer tastes like shit when it's warm, it's not good beer.

But your comment is a waste. It is just HN dunning-krugerites who were salty that the UNIX way never took off. When it comes to real life, the Poettering approach won, and for several good reasons.

The UNIX way is still doing fine on OpenBSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, Alpine, Gentoo... Poetteringware only won on the distros selling support contracts. "Fixing" what wasn't broken is great for those businesses.

> for several good reasons

Such as money from M$?

Compared to plan9, past its sell-by date. Compared to redhat poetteringware, I will continue to attend services.

We need another young Kary, but using shrapnel instead of frogs.

Tylenol 3 is an old & inexpensive medication. One has to wonder if one of Koren's undisclosed revenue sources was a manufacturer of pricier on-patent opioids (like Sackler).

That a handful of private companies (of which, Ellison has big investments in several) have cornered the market on NAND and DRAM -- with some sources saying that these reservations extend into 2029 -- should be far more concerning. They're sprinting toward super-intelligence, while potential competitors can't even buy equipment. Both pro-immigrant and anti-immigrant arguments will seem fatuous when we are all slaves.

Such things were doing a good-enough job scamming the elderly as it is--even with the silence-based delays.

That’s unfortunate and certainly not what I spend my time dreaming about. My favorite use case for the elderly is as a sort of companion for sharing their story for future generations. One of our partners uses our technology to help elderly. But yeah, this kind of technology makes AI feel more natural, so we should be aware of that and make sure it’s used for good.
