Monbiot is a shining beacon of integrity, in very sharp contrast to most of his peers. Exceptionally detailed in citations, the ability to change his mind and fight furiously for a cause he was previously against (Nuclear power), and now this.

Here's to hoping a few more follow in his footsteps...

I can't help but feel we have the media we deserve, if this is the scale of reaction to Monbiot's registry... sigh

Ditto, but it comes with disadvantages. Apparently my concentration-face is the same as my I'm-really-bored-please-talk-to-me-even-if-you-have-nothing-to-say-face. I only listening to music around half the time, but if I'm not doing something that's obviously requiring my attention, the headphones are always in anyway. Sometimes I just stare blankly at an open book while my mind is elsewhere :)

My lay-understanding of the state of quantum computing is that it works, but only up until the point where you try to look at the answer. None of the advances we see month after month have got any closer to being able to read the answer without destroying it, and that it's useless in practice without this last step, and we don't have the first clue how to solve it.

Can someone who knows what they're talking about tell me how accurate that summation is?

Dear John, Whoosh! Not my problem. Love, the Government.

Every change Facebook has ever made has been met with wailing and gnashing of teeth, which blows over so quickly that it's usually a source of amusement for those who like the change.

It's a public place - you probably should be somewhat less surprised and/or begrudging when it fills up with members of the public (and that's regardless of whether or not they are your kind of people, too).

Beautifully explained.

Having never questioned an indoctrination, religious or otherwise, is naive at best - stupid is a perfectly reasonable description, IMHO.

Rolling your own framework to the standard and complexity of, say, Zend, would take an impractical amount of time. If that's the kind of thing you need, use Zend.

If, however, you feel that anything more than a front controller, a registry and some common sense is just ego-stroking, roll your own and enjoy ;)
