If it's small and sent by ePacket (assuming you are in the US), then it will arrive fairly quickly

No one knew Google's potential when they were starting, I would argue the same is true for snapchat. Maybe they are nearing their full potential or maybe they're just getting started. Either way, that is big assumption you are making

"Evan Spiegel showed his arrogance to the world by turning down the offers..." So because someone will not sell his/her company, that means the person is arrogant. Wow. Speaking of arrogance...

I don't see why it is a bad thing. There are multiple types of emulators out there, which is awesome!!! This way if someone has a low powered computer, he/she can use one of the "less accurate but speedy emulators", but if someone has the compute power OR wants to play a rare game the others can't handle, bsnes to the rescue

Thanks a lot for posting this. I'm joining a startup next week as the first round of employees and there are definitely some good lessons in this article and the updated version to keep in mind. Thanks again!!!

I don't think any of those are Open Source. There is OpenSolaris, but you didn't list that.

I don't think OpenSolaris is open anymore, maybe you're thinking of IllumOS or OpenIndiana.

Why is this posted to Hacker News? It didn't seem at all related to programming or starting a business

On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity.

As a "white liberal" in Cambridge who was just about to mail in my property taxes, I just ripped up my contribution to the Cambridge Scholarship Fund [which by far helps non-white kids go to college]. Instead I'll donate my money to "white" victims of the bombs. Well played!
