Google has 120 billion dollars of cash on hand. Why are they laying off people? They should be poaching talent from other companies experiencing lay-offs to build better products.

I completely agree. The Olympic Games are a huge waste. The stadiums built in Rio for the 2016 games are standing there unused and unmanaged and slowly degrading. I think that it was a shame that Rio was chosen to host the Olympic games. Their country should have spent the money on the nearly 50 million people in poverty in Brazil. Bret Devreux had a very fascinating history of how iron was made posted, long read but it explains a lot of the complications and work that went into historically making iron, and many of the reasons metal was so rare & expensive. Well worth a read.
